Altiris, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATRS), a pioneer of IT lifecycle management solutions that reduce the total cost of owning IT resources, today announced plans to support Intel Active Management Technology (AMT), an innovative new technology leveraged by Altiris to provide hardware-based discovery, control and asset management despite the health of the computing device. AMT helps combat typical management issues through tamper-resistant hardware and firmware as an integral part of the PC, server or device platform and functions independently from the operating system.
Altiris is working with Intel to integrate silicon-based Intel AMT functionality, such as out-of-band management, asset management and alerting, with Altiris® IT lifecycle management solutions. This integration will enable IT organizations to more efficiently discover systems, gather asset information, perform basic management tasks and troubleshoot remote systems, regardless of OS or system state.
Managing problem devices that have experienced hardware or software failure or have been disabled by user error are even more difficult to remotely manage. These systems often can’t be properly maintained, secured or even accounted for in licensing or accounting reconciliation.
AMT provides a common operation interface between the desktop system and management infrastructures, such as Altiris IT lifecycle management solutions, and provides the foundation for new and innovative management tools in the future. AMT enables IT managers to access every system on their networks, regardless of system state. This improved platform for heterogeneous asset management helps reduce downtime, desk-side visits and operational costs.
Poul Nielsen, Altiris VP of marketing and product strategy, said, “We are committed to cross-platform, standards-based management protocols and we see particular value in managing the Intel-based computing platform. Intel-based devices are rapidly proliferating and our customers require efficient management solutions that work across disparate device types. We are working with Intel to support Intel Active Management Technology to help our customers increase IT productivity and computing reliability.”
Altiris IT lifecycle management solutions help remove the complexity of cross-platform management through an integrated, comprehensive solution for the management of diverse IT assets including clients, handhelds, servers, network devices and non-discoverable assets, and heterogeneous operating system environments including Windows, UNIX, Macintosh, Linux, Pocket PC, Palm and RIM. A single Web-based user interface drives a compelling return on investment for IT organizations by eliminating costly maintenance, integration and staff training.
