HP NEWS ADVISORY - HP today announced two new software packages as part of the HP Client Management Solutions, the HP Client Foundation Suite and the HP Client Premium Suite. These new suites complement HP’s portfolio of HP OpenView Radia-based configuration management solutions by providing alternate solutions for customers who desire automation of hardware and software client management tasks from an integrated, out-of-the-box solution.

The new suites provide customers with client management solutions that are a better value, easier to install, and more tightly integrated with HP clients. The combined portfolio of HP OpenView Radia-based configuration management solutions and the new suites further validate HP’s ability to provide client management solutions for businesses of all sizes, device types and platforms.

According to Gartner, Inc., only 23 percent of the typical IT budget is spent on the actual technology hardware purchase. The remaining 77 percent is allocated to the services and support functionality of that technology. HP believes that by expanding our own offerings through solutions from business alliances, we can effectively address the broadest array of customer needs – from out-of-the box solutions that offer quick time to value to fully adaptive solutions, which provide the greatest business benefits. No matter what the customer need, HP is committed to providing solutions that greatly reduce the complexity and costs associated with planning, deployment, and management throughout the entire client IT lifecycle.

“The HP Client Foundation Suite and HP Client Premium Suite are a great addition to our solution portfolio for providing affordable, out-of-the-box hardware and software management solutions in a variety of networked environments,” said Eileen O’Brien, VP, PSG Marketing, HP. “HP is committed to working with vendors such as Altiris to provide real and valuable benefits to our mutual customers.”

Steve Morton, Altiris VP of product management and marketing, said, “With these new suites, HP delivers the best-managed platforms in the industry for reducing IT ownership costs. HP and Altiris now provide our mutual customers with unprecedented value as we continue to enhance functionality.”

The HP Client Foundation Suite is designed for organizations that require essential client management functionality, including hardware and software inventory, operating system and application deployment, system data recovery, and connectivity to HP server management tools. The software suite includes:

    • HP Client Manager 6.1 – For the first time, this solution now merges HP’s client management technology with Instant Support technology and HP security management technology (HP Protect Tools). The software supports both hardware and software management tools for HP workstations, business PCs, and notebook computers. In addition, it also provides: in-depth hardware inventory; central and local alerting; system health scans and diagnostics, remote management of BIOS settings; the ability to acquire and deploy HP-specific driver updates; and, creation of many pre-configured Web reports to help analyze, plan, and check status on management tasks.
    • HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM) Connector -- for simplified client hardware management from a single HP ProLiant server Systems Insight Manager console.
    • Altiris Inventory Solution -- provides in-depth hardware, software, serial number and end-user contact information for the computers throughout the enterprise, allowing administrators to take control of the hardware and software in their LAN, WAN, and dial-up environments.
    • Altiris Deployment Solution -- Enables hands-off mass deployment and migration of desktops, notebooks, and handheld computers from an easy-to-use management console.
    • Altiris Local Recovery Pro -- This upgrade to Local Recovery that currently ships preloaded on many HP business desktops, notebooks and workstations helps protect the data and system state of HP computers by taking scheduled snapshots, so customers can quickly recover and get back to work when information is accidentally deleted or an operating system is corrupted.

The HP Client Premium Suite includes all of the functionality of the Client Foundation Suite, plus the following additional software to deliver complete hardware and software client lifecycle management:

    • HP OpenView Connector -- provides seamless integration that extends and enhances HP OpenView solutions, including Network Node Manager, Service Desk, and Operations, allowing IT managers to implement a more comprehensive management solution that will prevent downtime, resolve problems faster and keep systems running efficiently.
    • Altiris Software Delivery Solution -- provides secure, bandwidth-sensitive distribution of applications and updates, supporting LAN, WAN, and remote and mobile clients from a single infrastructure. It also offers advanced application management features such as application self-healing, conflict analysis and other ongoing software management capabilities.
    • Altiris Patch Management Solution -- allows an organization to proactively manage patches and software updates by automating the collection, analysis and delivery of patches across the client environment.
    • Altiris Application Metering Solution -- determines which software applications and licenses are actually being used and how often, enabling a company to reclaim unused software licenses, eliminate or reallocate unused licenses, prepare internal audits and plan for future software purchases, which reduces costs and risks associated with overbuying and underbuying.
    • Altiris Connector Solution – quickly import/export data via connections to third-party business systems. Leverage user and organizational data from HR systems, cost information from financial systems and other pertinent data from critical business systems for extended visibility into an organization.
    • Altiris Carbon Copy Solution -- enables centralized set-up and administration of sessions, bandwidth-awareness for superior performance over LAN and slow dialup (WAN and Internet connections), alerting on policy conditions and customizable Web reporting.
    • Altiris Application Management Solution -- collects information about applications installed by Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) and helps you manage source paths, schedule regular application health check-ups, and automatically repair missing or changed files and/or registry values.

Available July 25 the HP Client Foundation Suite will be priced at 63 USD and the HP Client Premium Suite at 92 USD – saving customers more than 62 percent when compared to purchasing the software solutions individually. HP customers will still be able to download the free HP Client Manager and Local Recovery software solutions at no additional charge, or purchase any of the other software solutions listed above, individually from HP.
