Altiris, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATRS), a pioneer of service-oriented management solutions, today announced it has extended its leadership position in system deployment and migration technologies with the latest release of Altiris® Deployment Solution™ software and Altiris PC Transplant® solution. Altiris is ready to deliver deployment and migration capabilities for the Microsoft Vista* operating system to help companies reduce the cost and complexity of change.
Altiris service-oriented management solutions help automate IT operations to address challenges to end-user productivity and computing availability. With Microsoft Windows Vista on the horizon, IT organizations are looking for solutions to ensure business continuity through the transition. Altiris provides automated and integrated operating system deployment, application packaging and virtualization, and data and settings migration for Windows to help make these changes in an efficient and seamless manner.
“Altiris technologies have been used to deploy and migrate millions of systems to the Windows operating system,” said Steve Morton, Altiris VP of product management and marketing. “Automated deployment and migration technologies will be critical to efficient enterprise adoption of Vista in 2007. Altiris technologies are tested to be Windows certified and logo qualified. Testing, along with close collaboration with key Microsoft Windows component teams, helps Altiris deliver products that are fully functional on future Windows versions such as Vista and Longhorn*.”
According to Gartner research, automating PC deployment will save 65 percent over the cost of manual deployment. “To achieve this, processes, policies and comprehensive configuration management solutions must be fully implemented, and applications required by users must be packaged for deployment. Companies that want to implement a homogeneous client OS…should start now to implement these tools, package their applications and hone their processes.”**
Deployment Solution provides real-time management and deployment of client and server computers, combining features to create packages, operate and manage computers and create automated management and deployment tasks. Deployment Solution includes best-of-breed imaging, migration and deployment technologies. It includes Windows and Web-based components to deploy and provision all types of computer devices, including handhelds, notebooks, thin clients, desktops and servers.
Deployment Solution 6.5 SP1 was recently released and provides improved usability and reliability such as:
- Improved virtual machine deployment
- Enhanced WinPE and Linux* automation during and after installation
- Sample Microsoft SQL 2005 installation jobs
- Enhanced sysprep usability
PC Transplant solution simplifies the deployment and migration of new computers or Windows operating systems by facilitating the migration of data and settings. PC Transplant uses a wizard-based interface to capture a computer’s personality (user accounts; desktop, network, and application settings; files; folders; and personal data) and transplants that personality to another computer. A personality can be transplanted through a self-extracting executable or through a real-time migration.
PC Transplant 6.5 includes a number of major updates and improvements, including:
- Vista ready
- Migration and resolution of security permissions for files and folders across domains and computers to help maintain strong data security
- Native Unicode support for multilingual application requirements
- A new and easy to use GUI for editing and building .A2i files
- Improved logging functionality to streamline data gathering and troubleshooting
