SALT LAKE CITY – Nov. 14, 2006 – Altiris, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATRS), a pioneer of service-oriented management solutions, today announced details of the new Altiris® service-oriented management strategy to help transform IT service management and align business and IT. In addition, Altiris today announced two new updates to its extensible management architecture to augment the Altiris service-oriented management experience.

After setting the standard for IT lifecycle management during the last few years, Altiris customers have asked for increased focus on solutions that solve their most pressing business issues.

IT organizations that spend upwards of 80 percent of their budget simply ‘keeping the lights on,’ squander resources required to facilitate business change. Altiris service-oriented management helps drive down the cost of IT maintenance and frees resources to enable business success. In a separate press release, Altiris today announced the results of the Forrester Consulting Total Economic Impact study that demonstrates the real-world benefits to business of Altiris service-oriented management.

According to Forrester research, “We now see IT operations moving fast in the direction of improved management processes with ITIL and advanced management technologies with BSM and the CMDB. The first step in the evolution has been to move from a technology orientation to a service orientation in IT operations.”1

IT organizations are now working more closely with business units to understand business requirements and align IT resources accordingly. According to Greg Butterfield, Altiris president and CEO, “Our goal is to provide service-oriented management software that helps IT organizations spend less time maintaining the status quo and more time helping business grow. Altiris solutions increase IT efficiency and improve security while helping IT resources align with business requirements.”

Altiris service-oriented management aligns business and IT through lifecycle management, automated operations and enforceable security. The Altiris extensible management architecture drives process automation through each of these three focus areas and provides modularity and integration through a standards-based management platform.

The four components of Altiris service-oriented management include:

    • Lifecycle management – Holistic visibility and control of IT assets from cradle to grave
    • Automated operations – Repeatable, predictable and invisible systems management
      • Improved service to the business
      • Extensive automation of manual processes
      • Elimination of technology, personnel and process silos
      • End-to-end service delivery
    • Enforceable security – Security and risk management
      • Vulnerability assessment and remediation via a single architecture
      • Protection of data and mitigation of security threats to drive compliance with industry regulations, policies and best practices
    • Extensible management architecture - Modular, open and scalable by design
      • The foundation to an industry-standard IT management platform
      • Heterogeneous management within a centralized configuration management database (CMDB)
      • Increased efficiency through a single, role-based Web console

According to Dwain Kinghorn, Altiris CTO, “Altiris customers have asked for our help in reducing service delivery costs and increasing service quality. A single management infrastructure, database and console are critical to achieving these goals. With thousands of customers and partners using and developing to Altiris service-oriented management, we believe that Altiris is truly becoming the industry-standard IT management platform that will help drive better service to the business.”

The Altiris extensible management architecture now includes the Altiris® Task Server™ automation engine to help customers further automate IT operations. Task Server intuitively integrates Altiris solutions across different processes to simplify IT tasks and automate workflow. Task Server aligns the appropriate people, products and processes to deliver more efficient IT service.

The new Altiris management console significantly improves the customer experience by providing better visibility and control into the computing environment. Altiris console navigation is now faster, easier and more customizable. Both updates help reduce the cost and complexity of IT management and deliver real value to businesses.
