Altiris Inventory Solution® SKU Consolidation
Altiris currently licenses several separate inventory products closely identified by platform. However, most of these products share a common set of features providing data about hardware, software, user, and configuration inventory. Beginning in 2007, Altiris will be simplifying its inventory product offering by combining these SKUs into one product named "Altiris Inventory Solution." In summary, Inventory Solution will be a single product with a single license key for gathering hardware, software, user, and configuration inventory from Windows, UNIX, Linux, Macintosh, Windows Mobile, RIM, Palm, and SNMP devices.
Inventory Solution for Servers SKU Enhanced
In January 2007, Altiris will deliver new functionality to existing Inventory Solution for Servers AUP customers. In addition to the core set of data returned by Inventory Solution, a new Inventory Pack for Servers will provide additional data that will further enhance the value of inventory being collected from server platforms. The initial release of Inventory Pack for Servers supports Windows 2000 and 2003 Server. UNIX, Linux, and ESX support will be added the second half of 2007.
The licensing for the Inventory Solution for Servers SKU will change to reflect the two components it now contains; Inventory Solution + Inventory Pack for Servers. So when a server returning both standard Inventory Solution data along with the extended information returned from Inventory Pack for Servers, a license from both Inventory Solution and Inventory Pack for Servers will decrement. All current Inventory Solution for Servers AUP customers are entitled to the new functionality in Inventory Pack for Servers; no new license is required.
Inventory Upgrade SKU
A new SKU will be available that will allow Inventory Solution customers to upgrade to Inventory Solution for Servers, which adds the new Inventory Pack for Servers functionality.
What You Need to Do
In January 2007, all current components of Inventory Solution will release updates as necessary to support this license change. These new versions will begin to use the new consolidated Inventory Solution license. You can visit the Altiris License Management Portal to combine your existing inventory licenses into the new consolidated license. Because Inventory Solution for Servers currently consists of two components, that is, Inventory Solution + Inventory Pack for Servers, customers will also want to visit the Altiris License Management Portal to receive the additional component.
